problem.

Industrial professionals struggled to find trusted suppliers specialized materials (e.g., alloy for making airplanes) and engineering partners through existing platforms. The startup initially focused on oil and gas, but stakeholders interviews revealed that this challenge affected professionals across multiple engineering sectors.

solution.

Through interviews with C-level executives and industry professionals across engineering, oil and gas, and R&D sectors in Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates, Colombia, and Turkey, I uncovered challenges in supplier discovery and professional trust-building.

These insights helped me redefine the concept as a global vendor discovery and professional networking platform, making it easier for engineers and decision-makers to find relevant suppliers, evaluate potential partners, and build trusted industry connections.

from interviews to insights.

I analyzed interviews with executives, engineers, founders, and R&D professionals across multiple countries. Using thematic analysis and affinity mapping, I organized the findings into recurring needs, pain points, and behavioural patterns. These insights informed the user journey map and persona, creating a clear foundation for the platform’s product direction and design.

persona.

The research revealed recurring challenges in supplier discovery, procurement, logistics, pricing, trust-building, and access to specialized expertise. I synthesized these findings into a representative persona that captured users’ goals, behaviours, frustrations, and real-world constraints.

user flow.

Research findings and user personas informed a streamlined journey connecting industrial buyers with qualified sellers. Sellers can showcase their capabilities through professional company profiles, while buyers can identify relevant suppliers based on location, expertise, company size, and workforce.

From onboarding and targeted discovery to evaluation, selection, and direct contact, the experience creates a clearer and more efficient path to trusted industry partnerships.

takeaway & lessons learned.

Supplier discovery challenges extended beyond oil and gas, revealing an opportunity for a cross-sector platform serving industrial professionals across multiple engineering fields.

Trust was as important as search. Buyers needed credible company profiles, relevant expertise, and clear business information to evaluate potential partners with confidence.

Research insights shaped a focused product direction: targeted vendor discovery, capability-based company profiles, partner evaluation, and direct connection within one experience.

This project strengthened my ability to turn complex, cross-industry research into a clear product direction while balancing diverse stakeholder perspectives with genuine user needs.

testimonial.

Aizhan conducted strong user and competitor research, including interviews with C-level executives. Through personas, storyboards, and hypothesis development, she helped us identify key pain points and translate insights into low- and high-fidelity design solutions. She was organized, reliable, and consistently well prepared throughout the project.
